Area Law Enforcement
Around fifty vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Vehicles, walls and postal boxes were vandalized, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they announced in a statement.
Police say they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a man noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued fluid.
The fluid had been drawn in the form of a swastika, they stated.
Police then found multiple other marked vehicles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation banning the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials report initial examinations indicate the substance was most likely blood from a person.
"There is still no clue as to its source; officials are presently not informed of any injuries in association with the incident," they commented.
City officials announced they were working "to unravel the case" and have requested to the public for information.
A high-ranking representative said the vandalism rendered him speechless and had to be solved promptly.
"This act hits the very heart of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the extremist attack five years ago," he posted on online, referring to the killing of nine victims by a shooter targeting people of foreign heritage in five years prior.
